Holiday shopping isn’t around the corner. It’s right there, right now. Inflation fears and the looming recession have made shoppers eager to stockpile gifts for the new year.
2022 will be a whole new story. This is in contrast to Halloween, when shoppers are often focused on October. This is due to the pandemic and all its repercussions.
The shopping season traditionally begins the day after Thanksgiving. The signs have been seen by retailers and they are ready to sell to shoppers.
Big retailers, Walmart (WMT) Target (TGT) and Amazon (AMZN) They all have taken steps in order to ensure that stock and staffing are in line the highest sales year. The shopping season has already started for retailers.
Target countered Amazon’s second Prime Day Oct. 11-12 with another round of Target Deal Days Oct. 6-8.
Amazon Releases Its Largest List
Amazon’s Top Toys of 2022 List was released before Prime Days, just in time to allow parents to take advantage of the easy list and discounts.
Amazon’s Top Toy List for 2022 is organized by multiple categories that can be filtered by age, a child’s favorite character, and categories like action figures or dolls, arts & crafts, collectible toys, building toys & blocks, preschool, games, STEM learning toys and more.
After narrowing down a particular type of toy, shoppers might choose a preferred price range. When it comes to shopping for children or gift exchanges, it’s a great way to quickly make selections and move on with your holiday shopping.
Walmart takes a different approach
Walmart has been busy preparing for the holiday sales. But the focus is on a new approach to the shopping frenzy. The retailer has launched Walmart Land and Walmart’s Universe of Play with the metaverse mega-platform, Roblox, which has over 52 million users daily.
“We’re showing up in a big way – creating community, content, entertainment and games through the launch of Walmart Land and Walmart’s Universe of Play,” said William White, Walmart chief marketing officer.
Walmart Universe of Play will include games featuring a child’s favorite characters from Jurassic World, Paw Patrol, Razor Scooters, L.O.L. Surprise! Surprise! Surprise! “verch.”Players can buy different clothing for their avatars and even buy them toys. Possibly to parent’s dismay, they can buy their children a metaverse experience that produces no clutter around the house.
If you’re looking for a more traditional way to give gifts, Walmart also has a Top Toy List that it that was published Aug 30. It includes Top Toys Under 25 such as Hot Wheels and L.O.L. Surprise!, Pokémon, Squishmallows and more. There’s a section for Need for Speed with Nerf, Spiderman, Hot Wheels, Nerf and Segway. Gamers can also find accessories and gifts for the Nintendo, Sony PlayStation and Xbox games. Playdate Picks features Barbie, Rainbow High Costume Dolls (“Little Live Pets”), Magic Mixies Rainbow Crystal Ball and many more toys.
Walmart has extended the date of return to Jan 31, 2023 to help early shoppers who were concerned about having gifts exchanged or returned.
Toy Legend Partners with Target Partners
Target launched Target Deal Days from Oct. 6-8. Target also extended its return policy to early holiday shoppers until Jan 24, 2023. Target also partnered up with a well-known brand to increase holiday season toy sales.
Target has partnered with FAO Schwarz, a well-known toy store, to celebrate its 160th anniversary. Target’s Bullseye Top Toys List, presented by FAO Schwarz, allows shoppers to shop by age, price range, brand, character and learning type.
